Best Budget CPU and Motherboard for a 7900XT Without Breaking the Bank?

Hey everyone! I recently upgraded my budget gaming rig which had an i5 11400F and a 1050ti to a 7900XT along with a more powerful PSU and a 1440p 155Hz monitor. While I can definitely see the improvement, I'm now looking to upgrade my CPU and motherboard to avoid bottlenecking the 7900XT. Right now, I'm using the i5 11400F, and while it's not terrible, I'm here to explore more budget-friendly options that would support DDR4.

I've been eyeing the i5 14600, but I'm not sure if it's the best choice. Do you think it can eliminate the bottleneck at 1440p, especially since I'm not into esports gaming? Also, would my current 16GB of RAM hold me back? Should I consider upgrading to 32GB of DDR4 if that's feasible? I would love to know the available options, their relative performance, and any good budget motherboards that pair well with them. Thanks for the help!

The i5 14600K is actually a fantastic choice for your setup—it won't bottleneck your 7900XT and offers great performance for both gaming and productivity. While 16GB of DDR4 RAM isn't the ideal, it should suffice for gaming. You can always upgrade to 32GB later if you want to take advantage of newer titles. Better yet, keep an eye on RAM prices for a good deal before upgrading!

Thanks for the insight! I might just go for the non-K version since I’m trying to stick to a budget. And I appreciate the tip on future RAM upgrades.

For sure! Just make sure your motherboard has enough slots for upgrades if you decide to go for more RAM later.

If you're considering AMD, check out the Ryzen 5 5600X. It’s budget-friendly and capable of handling 1440p gaming well. And yes, keep your BIOS updated to avoid any overheating issues with newer CPUs. It’s always a good practice!

Yeah, I’d definitely recommend looking at both Intel and AMD options. They each have their strength depending on your needs.

Good point! I’ll read into AMD options as well. Thanks for the heads up!
