Best Linux Distro for an Old Laptop with Low Specs

I have this old laptop that's been collecting dust, and it doesn't have an operating system at the moment. It's powered by an Intel Atom processor, has 2GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD. I know Linux would be a better fit than Windows for this device, but I'm having a tough time deciding which distro to go for. Any recommendations?

Debian with XFCE is also a solid choice for lower-end machines. It's stable and efficient, plus XFCE is lightweight enough to run smoothly on just 2GB of RAM.

Definitely check out Lubuntu or Xubuntu. I've used Lubuntu on old laptops before, and it runs like a dream compared to standard Ubuntu, which can struggle on lower specs.

I’m using Lubuntu on my old laptop now, and it's running like butter. Just what I needed!

You might want to check out MX Linux paired with Fluxbox. It's lightweight and works well on older hardware. If you're interested in trying other options, consider antiX, wattOS, or Porteus. They're all pretty light and have a unique feel. You can also use Ventoy to create a bootable USB, which is super handy for testing them out before you install.

Thanks for the list! I appreciate the tip about Ventoy. I'll give these distros a try.
