I just bought a new MSI gaming laptop, and I'm facing terrible wifi speeds. While playing Fortnite, my ping is fluctuating between 200 and 500 ms, and when I switch to ethernet, it gets even worse, reaching 500 to 1000 ms! My old laptop, which has much lower specs, performs better than this. I tested my wifi speed on my phone too, which is significantly better, so I'm convinced it's a problem with the laptop. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Welcome to the world of MSI. They often place wifi chips in awkward spots. My brother had similar issues with his MSI model. We tried a few solutions: go wired if possible, use a USB 5GHz dongle, or even consider swapping out the wifi card if you're up for it. Sometimes, manufacturers cut corners on these components.
I also found that some users for this model have encountered similar problems. I might just return mine too! I hate dealing with these issues.
Definitely check your wifi settings for anything like 'smart optimization' that could be limiting your speed. I had the same problem with my MSI Stealth and its Killer Wifi card. The software was throttling my speeds down to 100 Mbps for no good reason. Turning that off helped get my full speed back.
Sounds like your laptop might just be having some serious issues. Have you tried reinstalling the wifi card? Check for any available firmware updates for it as well. By the way, how are you even managing to play with a ping of 500 ms? Are you sure that's accurate?
It fluctuates quite a bit. Sometimes it’s around 40-100 ms, but usually, it’s between 200-500. I’m honestly thinking about just returning it because this is ridiculous.

Would you recommend returning this laptop instead? It's just frustrating dealing with such horrible wifi.
