Hey everyone! I'm a recent graduate eager to break into web development so I can earn some real cash and support my anime habit. Lately, I've just been applying for jobs on LinkedIn and ZipRecruiter, but I haven't had much luck like many others out there right now. I'm wondering if there's a smarter way to go about my job applications. Do you think applying directly on company websites would yield better results?

My best tip is to reach out directly to recruiters instead of just applying through job portals. Cold applications can be brutal—you'll often get lost in the shuffle. Find the recruiters for the companies you’re interested in on LinkedIn and send them a message expressing your interest in specific roles. Make sure your resume is polished and concise—this approach typically boosts my interview chances a lot.

You're right to think about diversifying your approach! Applying directly on company websites can lead to less competition compared to those big job boards. Also, don't underestimate the power of networking—connections on platforms like Discord or GitHub can really make a difference, especially for junior roles. Try showcasing some real projects in your portfolio too; it helps a lot more than just listing skills.

I feel you on this! It's so tough out there. I think enhancing your portfolio is a must, and don't forget about in-person networking. The connections can really boost your chances, especially if someone can vouch for you. Look into attending software meetups and hack nights; they can be great for meeting people in the industry.
