I have an Intel NUC5i3RYH system running Windows 11 that hasn't received updates for a while. It still performs great as a Plex Server and retro gaming machine, but I usually connect to it through Chrome Remote Desktop from my Mac. Recently, I've been getting an "incompatible protocol version" error when trying to use it. I'm looking for an easy-to-use, preferably free alternative that can also run from my iPhone. Any recommendations?

If you'll be staying within your home network, you can utilize Windows Remote Desktop — it's built into Windows and has clients for almost all operating systems. You can enable it by going into the Settings app and searching for 'Remote desktop settings'. It'll guide you through the setup!
Exposing an unsupported operating system with remote access capabilities to the internet is risky. A better option might be to switch to a supported version of Linux, which would allow you to use Chrome Remote Desktop again and provide other alternatives as well.
Have you tried MeshCentral? It's a solid remote access service that you can access via your browser. Just a heads up though, controlling it from a phone can be a bit tricky, and I'd recommend running it on a supported OS for the best experience.
