I'm a college student with a tight budget and lots of hobbies, but my computer is essential to my daily life. I've been using the same setup since I was 15, and now that I'm about to turn 22, I think it's time to upgrade some parts, particularly the CPU, to stay current until I can invest in a more powerful machine.
Right now, I have an i5 9600KF Coffee Lake CPU, 32 GB of DDR4 RAM running at 2400 MHz, and an RTX 2060 GPU. I've heard mixed opinions about upgrading to an i9 for my generation and have seen recommendations to go with something a bit less powerful to avoid choking my GPU. I'm not very knowledgeable about things like CPU bottlenecking, and I feel like my current setup isn't cutting it, especially for gaming.
I'd really appreciate any recommendations for upgrading my CPU or any other advice on how to sunset my current rig!

If you're mostly gaming and not getting performance issues with your current setup, you might want to just hold off a bit. RAM and storage prices are pretty high right now, and if your current CPU works for most games, there's no rush. Just focus on other priorities first.

I feel you! I mainly play games and even struggle with older ones like TF2. Sometimes it feels like upgrading is necessary, but maybe we just need to be a bit more patient.
