Hey everyone! I'm the network admin for a school district and I'm on the lookout for a new network monitoring platform. Currently, we use Intermapper, but I'm interested in switching to something that's free and open source. I've heard about Zabbix and I'm curious to know how it compares to LibreNMS. Just to give you an idea of our setup, we have over 900 Cisco access points, around 1500 speakers and cameras, Cisco phones, and about 40 main distribution frames (MDFs) with 5+ Cisco switches stacked together, totaling around 3500 devices to keep an eye on. What do you think about these options? Any recommendations?

Both LibreNMS and Zabbix are strong contenders. If your main focus is network devices, LibreNMS is usually quicker to set up and gives you great alerts and dashboards. Zabbix is super powerful for broader monitoring but it does take a bit more time to configure. If you want to monitor everything, think about going with Zabbix, but if just the network gear is your priority, you'll get set up with LibreNMS faster and easier!
As a fellow K-12 network admin, I just deployed Zabbix alongside Graylog, and I have to say, it’s been solid! I'm impressed with its capabilities so far!
If we weren’t already locked into PRTG (even though the pricing has gone up), we would definitely switch to Zabbix. It's really powerful!
Zabbix is a solid choice! Once you get it set up with Docker, you'll really appreciate its versatility. I can't recommend it enough.
Have you checked out Checkmk? It's another option that's worth considering for network monitoring.
