How Can I Upgrade My PC for Better Performance and Less Noise?

I purchased my PC in 2022, and I've already upgraded the RAM to 32GB. However, I'm experiencing an issue now where it makes a lot of noise, especially when playing games. It sounds like a plane engine, which is pretty annoying. While I'm not a hardcore gamer anymore due to becoming a father, I'm looking for some advice on how to upgrade my system a bit. I'm open to buying second-hand parts, as long as they are in good condition. I live in Switzerland but can order online from anywhere if the price is right. Any suggestions?

If airflow is poor in your case, consider upgrading to a better case. A 5060 Ti GPU would give you a nice performance boost as well, especially for AAA titles. Plus, moving to NVMe storage could really improve your load times compared to an HDD.

That makes sense! I’ve been reading about case airflow and it looks like mine might not be great at all. Do you think upgrading the GPU is a must?

You might want to check out some quieter fans. Brands like Be Quiet! make models that are known for being near-silent. The Dark Rock Pro 5 is an excellent option for CPU cooling that runs quietly compared to others.

First off, can you clarify if the noise is from the fans spinning too fast or if it's coil whine from the GPU? Identifying the source is crucial. If the fans are running loud, it could be a defective fan rather than a need for an upgrade. Also, tools like HWinfo can help check temperatures and see if any fans are failing.

Thanks for the tip! I’ve noticed that both the fans are spinning really fast and I'm hearing coil whine, especially with newer games. Should I be looking to replace one of those fans?

Not all noise is bad! If your temps are good, you can adjust the fan speeds to be quieter. But coil whine can be tricky—it’s pretty normal and might worsen with time, so it’s something to be aware of.
