Which PC Build is Best for Productivity with Creative Software?

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice on choosing the right PC build that will enhance my productivity, especially when working with heavy software like After Effects, Blender, Davinci Resolve, Cinema 4D, Photoshop, and Illustrator. My main priority is having a smooth workflow with quick playback and viewport speed while I'm working, rather than worrying too much about render times.

I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I do enjoy a few popular titles like Red Dead Redemption 2, Alan Wake 2, and Stalker 2. If the build can maintain around 60 fps at 1440p for these games, I'd be happy. My budget is a bit tight, and I've found a few builds that seem to fit my needs:

1. R5 5600X + 16GB DDR4 + RTX 5050 + NVMe 1TB for $760
2. R5 5600X + 16GB DDR4 + RTX 5060 + SSD 512GB for $940
3. R5 5600X + 16GB DDR4 + RX 9060XT 16GB + SSD 512GB for $980

I'm really looking for thoughts on the price-to-performance ratio of these options. If the cheaper build can still provide a decent experience with the software I need, that might be the way to go. I understand it might be better to save for a more powerful system in the future, but with rising prices, I believe I should make a move now before it gets worse. I also plan to upgrade the RAM later on, so keep that in mind!

Have you thought about the Mac angle? I switched to a MacBook for work and found it significantly faster for video and photo editing compared to my previous PC setup. Yeah, they're a bit pricier at first, but the efficiency is unreal, especially with editing workflows. If you can stretch your budget a bit, a newer Mac Mini would be worth considering if productivity is your priority!

Interesting point! I always thought Macs were too expensive but maybe for the efficiency it could pay off.

I’ve mostly built PCs for modularity, but I get the appeal now!

If you're mainly focused on productivity, I’d personally lean towards the second option with the RTX 5060, especially since After Effects and DaVinci Resolve can both benefit from a better GPU. The 512GB SSD will be a standard size for software storage but just keep in mind you'll need more space for your projects. It’s a solid balance of performance and pricing, and I believe it’ll deliver a smoother experience while working without breaking the bank.
Just make sure to maximize your RAM upgrade when you can!

That makes sense! The 5060 does seem like a good compromise. Do you think it handles 1440p gaming well alongside those creative tasks?

Yeah, I’m hoping for some decent gaming performance too!
