I'm considering whether a GPU upgrade would improve my gaming experience, especially since I've been struggling to get decent FPS on recent games like the Nioh 3 demo. I built my PC back in 2020, and while I thought my setup was still capable, I'm facing issues with performance. Here are my specs: CPU is a Ryzen 7 5700x3d, motherboard is a Taichi x570, I've got 32GB of Corsair Vengeance RAM, and I'm currently running an NVidia RTX 2080 Super with 8GB of VRAM.
I'm aware that I'm likely limited by my CPU for how much I can upgrade, but I'm curious how far I can go without hitting a bottleneck. My aim is to game at 1440p, but I'm hesitant about spending a fortune just to gain a few frames per second. Any advice on viable options?

Your CPU can handle nearly any GPU out now—except maybe the 5090 for the few CPU-intensive games. A modern high-end card like the 5070ti could realistically double your gaming performance. Though with Nioh 3, the optimization might be the main problem; it seems to need a lot more than what your current card offers, especially for 1080p at decent settings!
Your Ryzen 7 5700x3d is one of the best options out there. You could easily swap in a 9070xt or 5070ti, and you probably won't even hit a bottleneck at 1440p in most scenarios. Those cards will give you a solid performance boost!
Huh, really? That much?
What's your budget looking like? There's a lot of great options—anything from a 5060 ti to a 9070 really would be a solid upgrade over the 2080 Super. Just be sure your RAM is running with XMP and isn't stuck at 2133MHZ; if that's the case, consider selling your 4x8GB sticks for a 2x16GB kit for a performance boost. But if you're not keen on spending right now, your current setup can still serve you well for a bit longer!
Sounds like my build isn't outdated yet! And yeah, I checked; my RAM is clocked properly. Just trying to keep an eye on GPU prices, but they're all over the place these days.
I’d hold off right now. The prices are all over, and it might not be worth it at this moment.
Absolutely! I made a similar jump from a 3080 to a 9070 XT and saw a massive improvement.

Yeah, I figured the Nioh 3 situation was pretty unique. It behaves oddly; looks less demanding yet uses all my VRAM on low settings. Hoping for a patch or better drivers might help.
