I've been trying to check the contents of my old PlayStation 2 hard drive, which I usually use to boot my CD games. When I connected it to my desktop with a SATA converter, I think I might have messed up its initialization process. Now, whenever I attempt to initialize it in Disk Manager, I get an error message saying, 'a device which does not exist was specified.' Am I at risk of having damaged my hard disk?

It sounds like the hard drive didn't like being connected to your desktop. When you rescan disks and it disappears, that usually means the connection isn’t stable or the drive isn’t recognized properly. You might want to plug it back into the PS2 to see if it still works there.
Yeah, connecting it via USB to SATA can be tricky, especially with older drives. They sometimes need the original console to initialize properly. Check if it still runs on your PS2; that would help determine if it’s damaged.
