Should I Worry About a Scratching Sensation When Installing My 9850X3D?

I recently installed my 9850X3D processor and felt a strange scratching sensation when I placed it into the socket. While everything seemed fine—the CPU seated correctly and the lever locked down as it should—I can't help but wonder if I should be concerned about that feeling. Has anyone else experienced this when installing their CPUs?

To be really sure, you can perform a quick check. Just remove the CPU and inspect the motherboard's socket. If it looks okay, then odds are good you’re in the clear. But if it looks damaged, then that’s a different story. Just take it slow and be careful when checking!

I’m a bit nervous about taking it out and checking, though. What if I mess something up?

That scratching feeling is pretty common! It often happens due to the tiny metal pins making contact with the socket surface. As long as the CPU fits snugly and everything looks locked in place, you shouldn’t have anything to worry about.
