Is it worth getting a new motherboard for resizable BAR support?

I'm considering upgrading my GPU to the Intel Arc B580, which requires resizable BAR to function properly. My current motherboard is the GIGABYTE GA-A320M-S2H, and I've had it for over five years without any issues. If I don't upgrade the motherboard, I might opt for a different second-hand GPU in a similar price range. I'm thinking about upgrading to the MSI B550M PRO-VDH motherboard, which costs around $120 where I live. I have a Ryzen 5 1600 CPU (planning to upgrade to a Ryzen 5 5500 after the GPU) with 16GB of RAM and a 500W PSU. Unfortunately, I can't afford to build an entirely new PC right now.

Honestly, I'd suggest looking for a used GPU that doesn't require Intel's cards and using that $120 for either a Ryzen 5500 or 5600. You might find better performance without the hassle of changing motherboards.

For Intel ARC, it's really crucial to have resizable BAR support, as not having it can result in 20-30% performance loss. Check out some benchmarks if you're considering this upgrade!

What BIOS version are you currently using? Also, do you know the revision number of your motherboard?

The A320 chipset should technically support resizable BAR if you have a 5000 series CPU along with the right BIOS update. Check out the release notes on Gigabyte's site to see if your board is compatible. If you're definitely getting that 5500 CPU, consider upgrading that first. You might find you don’t even need a new motherboard afterward.
