I'm using a Dell laptop with an Intel i5 2430m processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, and an Nvidia NVS 2430m graphics card (which has only 512MB of VRAM). I'm looking for a Linux distribution that can run smoothly on my machine and also handle some decent gaming. I'm not a fan of Lubuntu, Puppy, or Pop!_OS, so I'd appreciate any other recommendations given my hardware specs.

I really think you should give MX Linux a shot. It's done wonders for my older laptop. If you're open to it, think about upgrading to 8GB of RAM, though. It could make a noticeable difference in performance!
Have you tried Cachy Linux? It might be perfect for your setup. It's designed to run smoothly on less powerful hardware. Just make sure to install it directly on your laptop instead of running it from a USB.
Definitely go for Linux Mint! If you want something lighter, try MX Linux with XFCE. It'll handle basic tasks well and is a pretty user-friendly option.
You should really consider what you mean by 'good games' because with your specs, you’ll need to keep expectations realistic. A solid choice would be Linux Mint; the Cinnamon edition should run fine, but if you find it too heavy, try the XFCE or MATE versions.
