I've been experiencing an issue where my computer shuts off completely, but only when I'm playing games. It happens about 10-15 minutes into a gaming session, and when it does, all my monitors, peripheral lights, and case fans turn off at once. I have to reset it using the power switch on the PSU. I've done some troubleshooting and believe it might be related to my power supply unit (PSU), but I recently found that the fan wires connected to my GPU were torn. I've removed those fans and temporarily attached some case fans to the GPU to keep temperatures in check. Before my new PSU arrives, I want to clarify if the damaged GPU fan wires could be causing the shutdowns. I rarely have issues when just browsing the web or using basic applications, so I'm not sure if the fan damage could be the culprit. Is there any way to test this, like disabling GPU fans or disconnecting the wires? Any help would be awesome! This could also be a heat-related problem. When you're gaming, your GPU heats up and anything exposed could potentially short out. Make sure to check all your cables for exposed copper and ensure they’re securely connected. If there's any chance cables are getting loose or damaged, replace them to avoid shorts.
I had a similar issue once, and it ended up being my RAM. If you're using an AMD setup, make sure your RAM is on the motherboard's QVL. It might not seem like it, but I spent weeks stress-testing parts until I realized it was a compatibility issue. Sometimes memory can cause unexpected shutdowns, so that's worth a check!
Have you tried disabling hardware acceleration and multiplane overlay in Windows? Sometimes, these settings can interfere with graphics performance and lead to shutdowns during intense gameplay. I had a friend who fixed similar issues this way, even if it sounds a bit unrelated.
