Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade from my 5700G and considering either the 5600X or the 5800X. I'm leaning towards skipping the AM5 generation due to rising RAM and SSD prices. My current setup sometimes feels limited by the 5700G, especially with DLSS. I wanted to know which processor would be the better choice overall, especially since the 5600X is priced at $138 and the 5800X at $204. Here are my specs: 5700G, 16GB 3200MHz RAM, RTX 4070, and an 850W PSU.

For purely gaming situations, you'd likely get similar performance with either chip, so the 5600X would save you some cash. However, if you multitask or run demanding applications while gaming, the extra cores in the 5800X can help you out.
If you’re primarily gaming and budget is a factor, the 5600X should be sufficient for you. The 5800X offers better multi-threaded performance, but for most games, you'll see only a minor difference between the two.
I do play games but also have a few applications running in the background like Discord. Would the 5800X be better for that?
Double-check on prices for a used 5900X – it could be a fantastic alternative that offers more power for games and multitasking. Even if you don’t handle heavy workloads, it’ll give your setup a nice boost, especially with your GPU.
While both CPUs are solid choices, the gains over the 5700G might not be as substantial as you think. The performance differences between them are often within a small margin for gaming. If you're looking for a noticeable upgrade, you might want to consider waiting for a better option if a 5700X3D isn't available.
