How Can I Change the Language on My New Laptop from China?

I recently purchased a laptop from China, but it's stuck in Mandarin and I can't find any options to change the language. The message says my Windows license only supports one language. I've tried to modify the registry settings, but I couldn't get it to work based on the guides I found. Reinstalling Windows 11 seems like an option too, but I can't find clear instructions for that either. What should I do?

A straightforward way to fix this is to create a bootable USB drive with the Windows Media Creation Tool. You can download Windows 11 directly from Microsoft and then follow the prompts to create the USB. Once you have that set up, boot your laptop from the USB drive—usually, there's a key to press before Windows loads (like F2, ESC, or Delete). This should let you do a fresh install with English as your language! Just a heads-up, you might have to deal with some driver issues afterward if your laptop has unusual hardware.

I actually tried using the media creation tool, but it only lets me download the Chinese version of Windows. Any tips on how to get the English version?

Make sure you're selecting the right options when using the tool. If you keep running into the same problem, you might need to check your region settings or use a VPN to access the English version.

You might want to check if you can manually change the language through Settings > Time & Language > Language and Region, but good luck figuring that out in Mandarin! If you can't manage that, a clean install seems like your best bet.

I've tried that and every label was in Mandarin, so it was a bit tricky. Hoping for a fresh install to resolve everything!

Could you share what specific type of Windows license you have? Sometimes it helps to know if it’s an OEM or retail license. You may be able to download a fresh ISO file from Microsoft's website and create a bootable USB. If you haven't started using the laptop yet, this could be the best way to get everything set up in English from scratch. Plus, it helps remove any unnecessary vendor software that might be installed from the Chinese version! Just remember that running a single language version might lead to activation issues later on, so be prepared for that.

Thanks! I’ll look into that. By the way, where does it say that my Windows license only supports one language?

It's usually mentioned in the system settings. Most versions should allow downloading language packs, so there might still be a way to change it!

Honestly, buying a laptop from China can come with its own set of challenges—especially if it's a model like the Alienware 16x Aurora. Can you share why you went for that route? It’s usually safer to buy from your local market.

I got it from my relatives in China. Hoping to save some money, but I didn't realize the language barrier would be such a hassle!
