How can I reduce the noise from my PC fans?

I've been using my computer build for some time, but the increasing noise from the fans has become really bothersome. I've already set up custom fan curves, yet I'm looking for ways to further lower the overall noise. Here's what I have in my setup: 4 Corsair ML 120 case fans, an AMD Wraith Prism CPU cooler (which is the loudest component for me, paired with a Ryzen 5 3600), a be quiet! PurePower 700W PSU (which is super quiet), and an RTX 2080 Super GPU that runs in a 0RPM mode, so I'm not too worried about it. The issue is my case, a Corsair Crystal 280X, has only 150mm of clearance for an air cooler, making it tricky to find a quiet yet efficient replacement for the Wraith Prism. I'm considering upgrading to 140mm be quiet! Silent Wings fans and a 280mm Corsair AIO, provided there's enough room. I'd love some feedback or suggestions if I'm missing something or if there's a better route to take. Thanks in advance!

I had the same struggles with my Cooler Master air cooler; it drove me crazy until I switched to a Thermalright AIO. For someone on a budget, quiet air cooling is possible, but you generally need to invest in higher-end models. Personally, the AIO works well for me and I don't worry much about leaks since they aren't very common.

I hear you on the cost of higher-end coolers, but given the space constraints, I might lean toward an AIO for a bit of peace and quiet.

If you're looking for quieter options, I've used the Noctua U9S (only 125mm tall) in a tight case, and it works great for keeping things cool and silent. I also have a be quiet! 240mm AIO, but honestly, the pump noise can be a bit annoying if you're sensitive to sound. Just something to consider since AIOs might not be the ultimate solution for noise issues. But definitely look into getting a Noctua cooler as they can be pretty quiet!

Thanks for the tip! I hadn’t thought about AIOs potentially having pump noise. I’ll look into the Noctua U9S, but availability seems tricky right now.

If you search for AM4 CPU air coolers under 150mm height, you'd find some good options. The Noctua NH-D12 is highly recommended among folks using cases like the NR200P. If you want a lower profile cooler like the Wraith, you might want to hold onto it, but it could also be time to consider an upgrade if you're dealing with excessive noise. Maybe your fans are older and the bearings are wearing out too?

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if the fans are wearing out; they weren’t this noisy before. It's nice to know that alternatives like the NH-D12 are out there!
