Hi everyone! I'm the unofficial 'IT Guy' at a small printing company, and I'm facing a bit of a challenge. We recently got a new badge printer that uses Cardpresso software, which needs an activation key to work. However, when I enter the key, it doesn't activate. My boss spoke to support, and they said that the software needs to communicate via the domain api.cardpresso.com using port 443 over HTTPS. The printer works fine on another computer, but we need it set up on one specific machine. I have some basic IT skills and could follow instructions, but I'm unsure how to get started fixing this issue. Any advice would be appreciated!

The computer you're trying to use needs a proper internet connection to reach the website. If it’s not connected, then it won't activate the software.
Hey! Let's break this down a bit. When they mention 'domain' here, they're referring to the URL of their website. The 'HTTPS' part means you’re using a secure connection, which pretty much everyone on the internet uses these days. Port 443 is generally the go-to for HTTPS, so it's not something most people need to mess with unless they have specific issues.
It sounds like the computer you’re trying to use might either not be connected to the internet or there’s something blocking the connection to api.cardpresso.com. Check if that computer has a solid internet connection, and if it does, look into any firewalls or antivirus software that might be causing the blockage. Since you've noticed that it works on another computer, maybe that one is on a different network or has different settings that you can investigate.
Could be that the computer's network profile is set to public. That can cause issues with local connections.
Have you checked the firewall settings? You may need to open port 443 there to allow communication.

It does have internet! They even remotely connected to our system for support, but that’s all I was left with.
