Why Do I Get Better FPS When Using a Second Monitor?

I've built my first PC a few years ago, and I've noticed something weird. My FPS counter usually shows about 150 FPS, but when I connected my PC to my TV via HDMI, the gaming experience felt incredibly smooth. However, when I disconnect the TV or wake the PC from sleep, it goes back to feeling slow and laggy, even though the FPS in Apex Legends stays high. Sometimes, I also experience a blackout for a moment during gameplay. Is there something I can do to improve the situation? Could I get even higher FPS without needing to hook up a second monitor? Thanks for any help!

Are you sure you've connected all your monitors to the GPU and not the motherboard? That can make a big difference in performance. Sometimes, Windows might default to using the integrated GPU if things are connected incorrectly.

Yeah, I'm plugging my main monitor into the GPU, but my TV is connected via HDMI. Is there a specific issue with that?

What GPU and CPU are you using? It's possible your setup is defaulting to the integrated graphics when the TV isn't connected. You could check settings in Windows and NVIDIA's control panel to make sure the right GPU is set as the default. It's a long shot but worth a try!

I have an AMD 6700 XT and an Intel Core i5. I looked into that, but it didn’t seem to help. Thanks for the suggestion!
