Help! My PC is Shutting Down Due to USB Overcurrent Error

I'm encountering a problem with my PC that pops up a message saying, 'Over current have been detected on your USB device! System will shut down in 15 seconds to protect your mainboard.' I've tried disconnecting all USB devices and restarting, but the issue persists. My motherboard model is an MSI z390 gaming edge AC. Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions?

I actually had the same issue once. Turned out my cat chewed through the wire of my mouse, which caused an overcurrent. I thought I had unplugged the mouse when troubleshooting, but I missed it. Just something to consider!

You could try removing all USB headers from the motherboard itself. If the PC boots up fine without them, then it’s likely that one of the USB ports has a short circuit.

Have you made sure to unplug all USB devices completely? Sometimes, a faulty USB device can cause this kind of error. If it still happens, it might be an issue with a USB chip on the motherboard.
