Is upgrading from a 1060 3GB to a RX 580 a good idea?

I'm looking for advice on upgrading my PC's graphics card. I'm currently using a 1060 3GB and considering a used RX 580 that costs $65. I have an Intel i5-7500 CPU and want to play games like VTOL VR, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (and eventually 2024), and Helldivers. Since I don't have a job right now and make about $10 a week doing chores, I want to make sure this upgrade is worth it. Any insights would be appreciated!

I’d recommend saving up an extra $20 and aiming for a 1660 Ti or 1660 Super instead. Those cards are priced around $75 and will give you a noticeable boost in 1080p gaming performance, making them a better investment long-term.

Honestly, the RX 580 is comparable in performance to the 1060; it's not a drastic upgrade. If you're looking for a real jump in quality, saving for an RTX 2060 or 3060 or their AMD equivalents might be a smarter move. You'll see a more significant difference with those.

The RX 580 offers about a 15% performance boost over the 1060 3GB. It's a decent upgrade if you're on a tight budget, but you need to consider if that extra performance is worth the hassle of installing it. Just a heads up, the VRAM is crucial, and the RX 580 has more of it, which could help with performance in some games.
