Hey everyone! I'm looking for your thoughts on a potential PC build that I'm considering. I want a machine priced around $2000 that excels at gaming (not fixed on specific titles), 3D printing and design, photo editing, and overall productivity. Currently, I have a pretty old PC setup that I'm looking to upgrade. Here are the specs of my current system:
- **CPU**: Ryzen 5 2600
- **CPU Cooler**: Cryorig H7 Quad Lumi
- **RAM**: Ballistix Sport 16GB DDR4 2666 MT/s
- **Motherboard**: Gigabyte B450 Aorus M
- **GPU**: Zotac GTX 1060 6GB
- **HDD**: Western Digital 1TB 7200RPM
- **SSD**: Kingston A400 240GB
- **Power Supply**: Seasonic M12 II 620W Bronze
- **Case**: Corsair Crystal 280X RGB
Now, here's the potential build I'm considering (approx. $2500):
- **CPU**: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- **Cooler**: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120SE
- **RAM**: Crucial Pro Overclocking 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6000
- **Motherboard**: Gigabyte B850 Aorus Elite Wifi7 ATX AM5
- **GPU**: Gigabyte Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB
- **SSD**: Samsung 990 Pro 2TB M.2-2280 PCIe
- **Power Supply**: Corsair SF1000 1000W 80+ Platinum
- **Case**: Fractal Design North ATX Mid Tower
You can check the build here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/qYg7YX. I'd love your insights on whether this setup is overkill, or if there are any compatibility issues. Also, if you think there are any parts I should add or change. Thanks in advance!

Your CPU choice is top-tier right now! The cooler is also highly rated, so you're good there. 32GB RAM is perfect for your needs. As for the GPU, it’s excellent for 1440p and even 4K gaming, and you shouldn’t experience any bottlenecking. Just a heads up, your SSD is a bit on the pricey side for what you’re doing. A more cost-effective Gen 4 SSD might be a better fit unless you're heavy into storage speed. Also, the 1000W PSU is probably more than you'll need; an 850W should suffice. The case looks great too! Feel free to ask if you have any more questions!
What resolution are you primarily gaming at? If it’s not 1080p, you might want to consider switching the 9800X3D to a 7800X3D or 9700X to save a bit of money. The 7800X3D is a fantastic value for productivity, outperforming even some more expensive CPUs, and the performance difference is negligible at higher resolutions.
This build looks solid! Since you’re not worried about the budget, you’ve made some great choices for both performance and aesthetics. I own a 9070 XT and it handles gaming and productivity tasks beautifully. Just keep in mind that if you’re venturing into AI programming, Nvidia's GPUs typically perform better in that area. But for everything else, you’re set!
True, AMD's ROCm isn't quite on par with Nvidia's CUDA for AI tasks. But if AI isn't your main focus, the RX 9070 XT should work great for you!

Thanks for the insights! I switched to a 1TB Silicon 4.0 SSD and a 2TB version since it ended up being cheaper. I also changed the power supply thanks for catching that! Still unsure about sticking with the 9800X3D or going with the 7800X3D. Any thoughts on my motherboard choice?
