How Can I Transfer Files to My Old First-Gen iPad?

I'm trying to transfer files to my really old iPad (the first generation) so I can use it to display sheet music for piano. I've hit a wall, though, with various methods not working.

Here are the challenges I'm facing:

- **Bluetooth**: It can find newer devices, but can't connect to them.
- **Internet**: The Safari browser is too outdated to load any webpages.
- **Updating Safari**: I can't open the App Store to update anything because of its age.
- **iTunes app**: The iPad rarely shows up in iTunes, and even when it does, transferring files seems impossible.
- **Cable**: When I connect to a PC, it's read-only.

Is there any way to get files onto this device?

It sounds like your iPad is stuck since it's so old. iTunes should be your go-to for file transfers, but if it's not detecting the iPad consistently, that's a bummer. Maybe try restarting both the iPad and your computer. Sometimes a fresh start helps with connectivity issues. Also, make sure you’re using a good USB cable, as faulty cables can cause them not to connect properly.

You mentioned it has GoodReader installed, which is great! Since your iOS version is 5.1.1, I'm not sure many apps can be downloaded. But if your iPad does find a way to connect in iTunes, try to transfer PDF files directly to GoodReader – it should let you read them once they're there. If iTunes continues to fail, it might be worth considering getting a second-hand tablet for a better experience.
