What Ryzen CPU Should I Upgrade to from a 5950X for Gaming?

Hey everyone! I'm upgrading my PC from a Ryzen 5 3600 and planning to buy a Ryzen 9 5950X. I'm trying to find out the equivalent Ryzen CPU in the Ryzen 3, 5, 7, 8, or 9 series. For instance, would a Ryzen 9 5950X perform similarly to a Ryzen 5 7400? I checked some CPU benchmarks, and I think the Ryzen 9 5950X is better, but I'm not entirely sure. Also, just to clarify, this build is primarily for gaming. I really appreciate any help you can offer! Thanks!

When comparing different Ryzen series, it's tricky because they're designed for different uses. The Ryzen 9 is more for workstations, while Ryzen 7 is geared towards gaming. For mostly gaming performance, you should consider the latest Ryzen 7 if you're sticking with AM4. The 5800X3D, if you can find it, is an excellent choice.

I didn't realize that; thanks for the heads up! I definitely need to stick with AM4 for budget reasons.

For gaming, more cores won’t significantly enhance your performance. A 5700X or even a 5800XT would give you pretty much the same results as the 5950X. If you can find a 5800X3D, that would be ideal, but they can be pricey.

Thanks for clarifying! Good to know I have other options.

It really depends on whether you're focused on gaming or productivity. If your main goal is gaming, I honestly wouldn’t recommend the 5950X since there are better options for that purpose.

You really don’t need a Ryzen 9 for gaming. Going with a 5600X or even a 5700X/5800X would give you great performance without the extra price tag.

Sounds good, I’ll definitely look into those models!

If you're just gaming, the Ryzen 7600X is a solid match for the 5950X, although the latter has way more cores than you’ll actually use. The 7700X would be a sweet spot that’s also cheaper.

Great advice, thanks! I'll consider that in my decision.
