Looking for Guidance on Building a Future-Proof, Upgradeable PC

I'm in the process of planning a new PC build, aimed specifically at long-term upgradeability and longevity. While I don't have any rush to buy, I'd like to incrementally improve my system over time, especially as hardware prices drop. I'm considering second-hand parts for both budget reasons and to be more eco-friendly.

I've been looking into the Optiplex route, but I'm concerned about potential limitations in upgradeability since many of those systems rely on older Intel CPUs, which change sockets fairly often. I'm particularly interested in CPU performance for gaming and 3D CAD work, and I fear that older Xeon or EPYC processors won't cut it due to their lack of single-core performance.

So, I'm leaning towards motherboards with AM4 sockets. I think if I can find a cheap used AM4 system, it would give me flexibility to upgrade the CPU later without breaking the bank. My gaming needs aren't cutting-edge, mainly targeting titles like Doom Eternal.

What motherboard, CPU, and PSU combos would you recommend for maximizing my upgrade potential?

For a build that prioritizes longevity and upgradeability, I'd suggest avoiding outdated hardware. AM5 motherboards are a great option, as they support multiple future CPU generations. If you’re considering budget parts, just be aware that it might not lead to lasting satisfaction in terms of performance.
