I'm looking to install Linux on my laptop, probably Arch, but I'm unsure about which desktop environment is best suited for laptops. I'm particularly interested in how well they work with trackpads, especially for everyday tasks. Does anyone have recommendations based on their experience?

I’ve heard that GNOME has better trackpad gesture support compared to KDE, though I haven’t tested it myself. If that’s important to you, it might be worth checking out!

Honestly, all desktop environments can manage trackpads pretty well. If you have one you’re already familiar with, just test it out using a live image and see how it feels.

It really depends on your laptop’s specs. For newer models, GNOME is fantastic, while older ones may run better with KDE or XFCE. For really old hardware, consider something like Moksha for a lightweight experience.

I recently tried COSMIC and loved it! The gestures worked perfectly, and it has great power management features. However, I switched back to XFCE since my laptop couldn't handle it well. But if you have a modern laptop, COSMIC might be the way to go!

KDE is definitely a great choice for laptops! It’s feature-rich and has solid support for trackpads, making it user-friendly for most tasks.
