My Linux Won’t Boot After Forced Shutdown – Any Ideas?

Hey everyone, I shut down my computer by holding the power button for about 20 seconds, and now I'm unable to boot into Linux. I get the following error when I try to start it:

/dev/nvme1n1p2; clean, X/Y files, A/B blocks
run-init can't execute '/sbin/init': No such file or directory.

When I attempt to use recovery mode, the boot process gets stuck with lines that say:

Begin: Running /scripts/local-bottom ... done.
Begin: Running /scripts/init-bottom ... done.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? Any tips on how to fix it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You could run your issue through GPT along with the distro details and any storage specifications you have. It might get you up and running in no time, and you'll pick up a useful skill in the process!

That's an interesting idea! I haven't tried that yet. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hey! First off, what distro are you using? Did you have auto updates enabled? This situation usually shouldn't occur unless you may have forced a shutdown while it was updating. Just curious, what prompted you to shut it down like that? Were there any issues beforehand?
