Moving to Mint: Need Help Using an Old iPad as a Third Screen

I'm planning to transition to using Mint on my main computer after testing it on an old laptop. However, I've hit a snag. I use an old iPad 2 as a third screen primarily for chats or OBS via Splashtop Xdisplay, but I'm struggling to find a Linux alternative. Deskreen hasn't worked for me, and there don't seem to be any VNC clients compatible with the iPad due to its outdated iOS version. Does anyone have any suggestions for ways I might get this to work?

Looks like you might be using Splashtop's software! They do have some Linux streaming options out there, but unfortunately, Xdisplay is not available for Linux. That said, it seems like they still provide a remote access tool that might have some utility for you at least!

Yeah, I believe that's their remote access software. Xdisplay is specifically for turning tablets into extra displays though, and sadly, they don't have a compatible version for Linux.

Honestly, the real limitation here is the iPad 2 and its iOS version. Most apps meant for using a tablet as an extra monitor can run on Linux, but they need a compatible client app on the tablet, and with an iPad 2 being so outdated, you're stuck. You could try running the Splashtop host side through Wine, but no guarantees there. Alternatively, consider getting a cheap used monitor or an Android tablet instead; they usually work better with Linux for this kind of thing, especially for OBS and chats.

I'm actually testing something on my rig to see if I can get Xdisplay working. I've also got a cheap Android tablet I might use as a backup if all else fails.
