What’s the Best CPU for an RTX 5070 to Maximize 1440p Gaming?

Hey everyone! I'm in the process of building a new PC and I want it to be able to handle 1440p gaming smoothly for the next few years. I primarily play single-player games and not much of the competitive stuff, with recent titles like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Expedition 33, Doom, and Oblivion Remastered under my belt this year.

While I'm fine with a stable 60 FPS, I wouldn't mind hitting 90-120 FPS if possible. I'm not into hardcore min-maxing, but I want to ensure my RTX 5070 can perform well without being bottlenecked. I'm also considering factors like future-proofing, platform longevity, and real-world performance.

So, my big questions are: Should I go for an AM5 or LGA1700 platform? And once I pick a platform, should I go with something like a Ryzen 5 7600X / 9600X or an i5-14600KF? Maybe a budget option like an i5-14400F or a cheaper Ryzen 5 is enough? Or would stepping up to an i7-14700 or Ryzen 7 9700X make more sense? Just to add context, I've already purchased 32GB of DDR5 6000MHz CL30 RAM. I'd appreciate any insights or build suggestions. Thanks!

Just go with AM5, it's the better choice for future upgrades and performance,

You might want to consider the 7800X3D or 9800X3D if budget allows. But if you're looking to save some cash, the Ryzen 9700X or 9600X can definitely fit the bill. I’d keep in mind that the 7800X3D is priced well for performance. In Poland, the price difference you're seeing for the 9800X3D might not be worth it, so the 7800X3D could be your best bet.

Generally, higher graphic settings mean that the GPU is less likely to be bottlenecked by the CPU. The 9600X should work fine, but don't overlook the x3D CPUs if you're aiming for extra performance boosts, especially if you're playing graphically intensive games.

Given that you have DDR5 RAM, I recommend going with the AM5 platform for better upgrade potential. For gaming at 1440p, the Ryzen 5 7600 or 9600X would be more than adequate. As for concerns about bottlenecking with the Ryzen 5, it won’t make a significant difference in AAA games at that resolution. Stick with the Ryzen 5 for a couple of years and then you can upgrade to a newer CPU in the future if needed.
