Help! My PC Won’t Display Anything – What Should I Do?

I got home from my job and wanted to play some games, but when I turned on my PC, I ended up with a black screen and no signal. The fans are running, and everything seems normal at first. I'm connected to my GPU with the HDMI, not the motherboard. I've tried a bunch of things like swapping the HDMI cables, restarting the PC, reseating the GPU and RAM, and even pulling the CMOS battery out for two minutes. Unfortunately, I'm not getting any power to the USB ports either. Here are my specs: GTX 1650, an unknown prebuilt motherboard, and an i5 1240F. As a student, I can't afford to buy new parts right now, so I'm hoping someone can suggest some fixes or what I might need to replace.

Have you tried removing the GPU and plugging your monitor directly into the motherboard's video output? Sometimes that gives a clearer view of what's happening.

I actually did that, and after a break, I went back to try again and... it just worked! I'm not sure why, but I'm reinstalling Windows now.

To check if your GPU is fried, you can test it by connecting your monitor to the motherboard's built-in graphics with an HDMI cable.

Good news! The motherboard output is working fine now. Thanks for the tip!

It sounds like it might have just been in hibernate mode and needed a full reset. Leaving it unplugged for a while can help clear up those issues sometimes.
