I recently upgraded to an RTX 5070 and got a DOOM bundle from the NVIDIA store, moving up from my old RTX 2070. Right now, I'm using a 1080p monitor with a 144Hz refresh rate, but I see a lot of folks suggesting I should jump to 1440p to fully utilize my new GPU. I'm curious why that is and if it's just about frame generation. I've considered using frame generation because it seems decent, but I heard DLSS might not perform well on lower resolution screens. Should I wait to upgrade my monitor? Does it really make a difference?

You know, it's kind of like buying a race car and then being told it's too fast for your daily drives. Just because the RTX 5070 has more potential at higher resolutions doesn’t mean your current setup is pointless! If you're enjoying gaming at 1080p, stick with it for now. There's no harm in running your card at its current resolution if you’re satisfied.
In a couple of years, 1080p might start needing up to 12GB of VRAM due to how game developers are scaling up graphics. Right now, your setup is pretty solid, but thinking about future-proofing is wise. Just keep an eye on the VRAM needs as games evolve, but for today, you should be just fine!
If you’re content with your 1080p monitor, stick with it! Some of my friends are still running 20-40 series cards at 1080p and enjoying it. But if you’re itching for a change, upgrading to 1440p will definitely enhance your gaming experience, especially for larger, open-world games. Just if you can afford it, consider that option!
Yeah, going for a bigger resolution monitor has totally changed my gaming sessions. It's a nice upgrade if you’re up for it!
Honestly, playing at 1080p means you’ll get higher frame rates even with your RTX 5070. There’s no downside if you enjoy the performance you're getting. If you've got the urge for a higher resolution, then sure, look into getting that upgrade later on!
Totally agree! I remember back in the day when getting more VRAM felt unnecessary too. Better to have it ready for future games than to be left behind!
