Is It Better to Prioritize RAM Speed or Capacity for Gaming?

I have a PC with 2 x 8 GB RAM sticks and 2 x 16 GB RAM slots, totaling 48 GB. Unfortunately, the 8 GB and 16 GB sticks aren't compatible, causing both sets to run at 2100 MHz. Individually, the 8 GB sticks can run at 3200 MHz, and the 16 GB sticks at 3600 MHz. Should I get rid of the 8 GB sticks and switch to just 32 GB RAM at 3600 MHz speed, or stick with 48 GB RAM running at the slower 2100 MHz?

Are you experiencing any lag or slowdowns? If 32 GB is doing the job for you, then definitely go for the faster option. But if you've noticed performance issues, especially with that RTX 5070 and Ryzen 7 setup, it might be worth it to keep the 48 GB, as some games could use more RAM. Just make sure to check your settings and tweak the speeds if you can!

I'm getting FPS drops in games like ARC Raiders and League of Legends, usually around 100-240 FPS when it feels like I should be hitting higher numbers. I'm wondering if RAM speed could be the issue!

I’d definitely go for the 32 GB at 3600 MHz. It's way faster than 48 GB at 2100 MHz and most games won’t use that extra 16 GB. In fact, you'd likely lose performance with the slow speeds. Trust me, you won’t regret going for the higher speed!

It really comes down to your needs. If you don’t require the extra capacity for anything, the speed boost with the 32 GB at 3600 MHz will really help both in gaming and regular tasks. But if you're doing heavy multitasking or specific workloads that need more RAM, you might want to keep the 48 GB. Just consider whether your current performance is adequate.

For gaming, 32 GB is more than enough. I’d totally sell those 8 GB sticks and just stick with the faster RAM. It’ll make a noticeable difference while playing games.
