Help! I Erased My Old iPhone While Trying to Transfer Data to a New One

Hi everyone,

I recently had an iPhone 8 Plus and was following Verizon's instructions to transfer my data to my new iPhone 17. During the process, I mistakenly hit the erase option while trying to disable Find My iPhone, and now my old phone is completely wiped. People usually say there's no hope once it's erased, and I'm really struggling with that idea. I can't believe I've lost eight years of memories and important data, especially pictures and messages from loved ones who have passed away. To make matters worse, I ran out of cloud storage a while ago, so only a tiny fraction of my data transferred to the new phone.

Now I'm reaching out for any ideas or advice you might have, no matter how far-fetched. Also, I noticed that some notes from my old phone are back in the Notes app because they were stored in iCloud, but I had some under Gmail and Yahoo that didn't make the transfer. Is there any chance those notes could still be somewhere in my Google or Yahoo accounts? Please help me out. I'm feeling pretty lost right now!

I'm really sorry to hear about what happened! Unfortunately, when data is erased from an iPhone, it’s usually gone for good. The data is encrypted, and erasing the phone also wipes the key to decrypt it. As for your notes, it sounds like a good idea to check your Google and Yahoo accounts directly instead of just looking in the apps. If those notes were saved in those folders, there’s a chance they might be retrievable from your account's backup. Just log in to your accounts through a web browser and see if you can find anything there.

I get it, losing that kind of data is devastating. For your notes saved under Gmail and Yahoo, Apple uses a specific method to store them. It means you won’t see them just by logging into Google Keep or Yahoo Mail. To check those notes, you need to link your new phone to those accounts again. Once you do, you might be able to access the notes you were missing. I hope you find something! Good luck!

Honestly, it sounds rough, and it’s completely normal to feel upset. Just remember, a lot of folks have faced data loss, and it tends to be irreversible. I’d still suggest doing everything possible with those other accounts before letting it go. Just log in and explore the settings or backups—there might be something hiding in there! And don't beat yourself up over it; mistakes happen to all of us.
