Why Am I Seeing “Unusual Traffic” Messages When I Google?

I've been trying to Google some things, but I keep getting a message saying "our systems have detected unusual traffic". This has happened at least 5-6 times over the past two days, and I had to solve a CAPTCHA each time. Should I be concerned about malware or anything like that? I'm using an HP laptop with Windows 11.

Have you been using a VPN, proxy, or any services like iCloud Private Relay? These can mix your traffic with others, which might trigger those messages. Also, check if there are any devices on your network that could be compromised and sending out strange traffic to Google.

What’s the best way to scan for that kind of issue?

It sounds like it might not be malware on your laptop itself but rather something related to your IP address. If someone you share an IP with is doing shady stuff online, you could be getting caught in the crossfire. You could wait it out or contact your ISP and ask them for a new IP address.

I don’t know much about IPs either. Does that mean it could be someone in my family or neighbors? I only use my home Wi-Fi.
