I've been considering upgrading my RAM from 16GB to 32GB because games seem to be demanding more memory lately. However, I'm torn since the prices are a bit crazy right now, and I feel like investing in an older platform might not be the best move, especially when I plan to transition to AM5 and DDR5 eventually. My Ryzen 5800X3D is holding up pretty well, so I'm not in a rush for a full upgrade. What do you think? Should I go ahead with the RAM upgrade now to extend my build's lifespan, or should I hold off until I'm ready for a complete overhaul?

Just check your memory usage when you’re gaming. If it stays under 16GB, then maybe don’t bother with the upgrade now. My second RAM stick is mostly used with heavy software, and no game has pushed past 16GB for me yet. But if you're constantly hitting that limit, then definitely consider upgrading!
Upgrading could help with future-proofing, but it’s important to consider what you're playing. I have 32GB but only see my heavily modded games use more than 16GB. Otherwise, most games stick to under 12GB. If you think you’ll upgrade your entire setup soon, it may be better to hold off.
It depends on whether you're actually running into issues with your current 16GB. If you're not experiencing slowdowns or crashes, it might not be essential to upgrade. However, if you're planning to get a new monitor, it could be a good time to upgrade RAM too, especially if you want to future-proof your setup a bit for when games do demand more memory.
If you're regularly using virtual machines or heavy applications that require more RAM, then yes, definitely upgrade. But if it's just for gaming, you might want to save your cash. Saving up for a decent upgrade later makes sense if you plan to switch platforms soon anyway.
Honestly, upgrading to 32GB doesn't really make sense unless you're running applications that use a lot of memory, like video editing software or virtual machines. For gaming, most titles still run perfectly fine with 16GB. However, if you want better multitasking, it could be worth it. Also, prices for DDR4 RAM have dropped a bit, so look for a good dual-channel kit if you decide to go this route.

I'm with you on that. Sometimes those upgrades just help the whole experience, even if you're not maxing out your current limits.
