Upgrading from Ryzen 7 2700 to a 5000 Series CPU on B350M Motherboard

Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my Ryzen 7 2700 that's currently running on an MSI B350M motherboard. I use it mainly for CAD, Photoshop, and video editing, and I'm hoping to get a bit more power. I noticed MSI has a Beta BIOS available for the 5000 series CPUs, but I've been hesitant to use Beta versions in the past. Has anyone successfully installed a 5700X or 5900XT on a B350M board? How stable was it? Thanks in advance!

I upgraded from a 2600 to a 5800X3D with a Mortar B350M, and it’s been fantastic. After updating the BIOS, I even got access to Kombo Strike, which lets you auto-undervolt. Just keep an eye on your motherboard's VRMs, as they were average back then. I got lucky with mine since MSI had some solid boards, and I'd suggest avoiding CPUs with two chiplets like the 5900 and 5950 as they draw more power.

Thanks for the tip! I wasn't sure what VRMs were before, but now it makes sense. I have the Mortar too, so I’ll aim for the 5700X.

My cousin has a 5800X3D running on an MSI X370 board, and he's had no issues so far! While I caution against using a 5900XT with the B350, mainly due to the VRM limits for handling 16 cores, a 5700X should work well without any stability problems.
