Troubleshooting My New 9850X3D Setup

Hey everyone, I recently built a new system with a 9850X3D processor, Asus Prime X870-P motherboard, and 32GB of G.Skill Flare X5 RAM. I got everything from Micro Center, but I'm not getting any display or boot-up (no POST) at all. I've already updated the BIOS to the latest version, swapped in a different power supply, and reseated the CPU. I even tried using just one stick of RAM, but nothing seems to work. I'm connecting via the motherboard's HDMI port.

Update: I switched back to my second PSU, and this time I used the 8+8 CPU power connectors instead of just one 8-pin, and it booted right up!

Have you checked if the iGPU is disabled in the BIOS? That could be a last resort thought. Sometimes resetting the BIOS can also work wonders, especially if you're having trouble booting.

Yeah, definitely a good idea! Just keep in mind if it’s requiring you to hold the power button to turn it off, it might not have even reached the BIOS yet.

You might want to try a standard troubleshooting method: unplug everything except the motherboard and CPU. If it still doesn't POST, it could indicate that either the motherboard or CPU is faulty.

That's a solid strategy, but I’m not sure what else you can disconnect since you mentioned there are no drives or PCIe cards connected.

It's interesting to note that you managed to get it booting by using the 8+8 CPU connectors instead of a single 8-pin after switching back to your second PSU. That’s a key change that made a difference!
