A few years back, I accidentally dropped my phone into the ocean and, being a bit careless, I tried to turn it on afterwards to check if it still worked. I'm pretty sure that caused a short circuit since it won't turn on now. I really need to regain access to that phone because it holds the password to an old email account I used. Does anyone know if there's any hope for fixing it, and if so, how would I go about it?

Honestly, you might be out of luck. Salt water can really wreak havoc on electronics. If it were just fresh water, you might have been able to salvage it by letting it dry out. But with salt water, it's likely toast. I recommend taking it to a repair shop if there's any chance left, but don’t get your hopes too high.
You could put it on a surfboard and hope it magically comes back to life? Just kidding! It's safe to say it's not going to happen. Sometimes it's tough to accept, but chalk it up to lessons learned.
You've probably fried the circuit board when you turned it on after it got wet. Salt water is super corrosive, and once it’s in there, fixing it is tough. You could try drying it out for a few days in rice, but honestly, it might be best to just let it go.
Yeah, turning it on was a bad move. Salt water is really harmful to devices, plus it’s been years now. They often don’t survive that kind of exposure. Sorry, but your best bet is probably looking into a replacement.
