Hey everyone! I built my PC back in 2021 and I'm looking to do a bit of an upgrade over the next couple of months. My plan is to upgrade the CPU and motherboard now, then get a new GPU in about a year or two. I'm also thinking about whether I should upgrade the PSU and case now or wait on those. I mainly use my setup for gaming.
1. Is this a good upgrade plan?
2. I found out that my RAM is tuned specifically for AMD Ryzen. Should I switch to an AMD CPU to make the most of my RAM? Now seems like a good time to do it.
3. Could anyone suggest some CPU and motherboard combos that would fit my current build and still accommodate a future graphics card that would be similar to Nvidia's 40/50 series? I'm looking to stay within a budget of around $500-600. If that's unrealistic, what budget should I consider? I appreciate any help!

Is that $500-$600 budget just for the GPU, or is it for everything? It's tricky to recommend CPUs without knowing your exact budget for that. If you go with Intel, I’d suggest checking out the 14th gen and make sure you update the BIOS when you set it up. Also, be sure to check the motherboard manufacturer's website to confirm your RAM's compatibility—Corsair has a similar compatibility list.
Upgrading to a modern CPU and motherboard is a solid plan. Your RAM will work fine with Intel CPUs; that concern mainly started with DDR5. For a good option, you can get a 12600KF with a B760 DDR4 board for about $310. If you need a CPU cooler, there's a decent one for around $36 that runs quietly and cools well.
Thanks for the info! I’ll look into the Intel options. Just out of curiosity, if my RAM is 'tuned for AMD Ryzen', does that mean it won't perform well with Intel? Is it just a marketing term?
For maximum performance, consider the 5700X or 5800XT with a B550 motherboard. Alternatively, the 14600K/KF paired with a mid/high B760 DDR4 board is a good match too, just ensure it has a VRM heatsink and solid power phases.
Are you saying that the 5700X/5800XT with a B550 is comparable to the 14600 with a B760? That’s really helpful!

Sorry for the confusion, I meant $500-600 for the CPU and motherboard. I’ll buy the GPU later with a bigger budget. I’ll definitely check compatibility before making a decision. Thanks for the heads up!
