Why Isn’t My Pokémon Heart Gold Cartridge Working?

I've just bought my first Pokémon game, Pokémon Heart Gold for the DS, and when I insert the cartridge into my Nintendo DSi, it doesn't show up as expected. I also noticed that this cartridge is a different shape compared to my other DS games. Can anyone tell me what model this cartridge might be? Is there a way to get it to work, or should I just return it since it's not functioning? Here's a link with pictures for reference: https://imgur.com/a/W7GXpZ1

This is not the genuine Heart Gold cartridge. It appears to be an R4 cartridge that has a Heart Gold label. The original game can be pricey, so it's unfortunate if you got scammed. On the bright side, an R4 can potentially play any DS game if set up correctly. You might want to check the micro SD card inside it; it could be misconfigured or not properly inserted. If you can connect the card to a PC, be careful since you’re unsure about its contents. Alternatively, getting a new micro SD and setting it up for the R4 might work too.

That sounds a bit complex, but it makes sense. I'll look into it further, and maybe find a more reliable source for the actual game. Thanks for the insight!

It looks like you may have been sold a reproduction cartridge. Those will usually only work with modified hardware. If it was advertised as a legitimate game, that’s definitely misleading.

Yeah, I bought it online, but they claimed it was a regular cartridge.
