Looking for Upgrade Tips for My 6-Year-Old PC

I've had my PC for about six years now, and while it's still doing okay, I'm starting to notice some frame drops and stuttering during gaming. It has components that I built back in 2020, and I'm hoping to extend its life for a couple more years without doing a full rebuild. I have a budget of around $500 for upgrades.

My biggest concern is that if I upgrade my GPU, it might bottleneck against my current CPU. The CPU options I've looked into for upgrading are either 10th or 11th gen Intel, but those would require a new motherboard too, which means I'd basically be starting over.

I usually game at 1440p, but I'm quite casual about it, so I'm hesitant to invest in a complete overhaul given the current prices. I live in a large city, so I can find some used parts, but I'm a bit wary about buying used PC components. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I see two good options here. First, you could sell your current GPU for around $150-200 and add that to your budget to buy a better one. Second, consider saving a bit more money and selling your whole build for about $500. It's better to invest in a solid GPU upgrade than to pour money into an outdated CPU.

If you're gaming at 1440p, I'd recommend getting a RX 9060 XT with 16GB for around $450-$480. Your current CPU should handle it fine, especially if you're not pushing super high settings. Just keep an eye on the GPU load; if it hits 100%, then you might be bottlenecked. Use your 10400F CPU for now and adjust your settings accordingly to find the best balance.
