I'm in a bit of a bind. My company provides me with a nice laptop, but I can't take it home due to the need for special permissions since we deal with Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). My personal laptop is an older dual-core 5th gen i5 Thinkpad, and it's starting to struggle. I've managed to keep it somewhat functional with lightweight Linux desktop environments, but using Windows 11 on it is a hassle. I'm looking for recommendations on used laptop models that are quad-core and built on a newer architecture, preferably for under $400.

You should check out the Dell Financial Refurbish site. They often have great deals and can sometimes give you a 30-50% discount. I've picked up a couple of Latitude 7420s (11th gen i7, 32GB RAM, 512GB SSD) for about $300 each, which is a solid deal!
If you're looking for options, you might consider the P1 or P16s models; they're pretty solid.
Honestly, any Dell Inspiron model could be a good bet. They generally offer decent performance for the price.
I’d recommend going for used T480 laptops as they are a good budget choice for Windows 11 right now. But if you can, aim for a 10th gen model instead to better future-proof your purchase.
Just a heads up: if you’re used to Thinkpads, you might not be satisfied with anything else. An upgraded used Thinkpad could be the way to go!

I’ve heard that Thinkpads aren’t as special as people make them out to be, though.
