Is 80°C Safe for My Laptop CPU While Gaming?

I've noticed that when I play games like Rainbow Six Siege, my laptop's CPU temperature reaches around 80°C and sometimes even close to 90°C on low settings and "turbo mode." Usually, when I'm playing Rocket League, it stays around 60-70°C, and my GPU is about 10°C cooler. I'm wondering if consistently gaming at this temperature for 1-2 hours at a time could affect the longevity of my laptop. Are there any tips for cooling it down? I'm not very tech-savvy, so any help would be appreciated! My laptop is the ASUS TUF Gaming A15, equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor.

Those temperatures are normal for gaming laptops, but you can help keep things cooler! Using a laptop stand or a cooling pad can improve airflow. Even propping it up on small tiles can make a difference. Regularly cleaning the fans is also a good idea; just hit them with a can of compressed air. Since your laptop is less than 2 years old, you’re likely fine with thermal paste for now, but it can help if you feel like redoing it down the road.

I do keep it elevated and clean the fans regularly. I've wondered about cooling pads—are they effective or more hit or miss?

Your CPU is built to handle those temperatures, and it will throttle itself if it gets too hot to avoid damage, so you're generally safe. However, if temperatures peak frequently close to 90°C, it might impact performance over time.

Yes, most laptops are designed to operate at higher temps, so 80°C is typically okay. Just be mindful of your usage, and if you keep hitting 90°C often, that could be an issue.
