Help! Can’t Download Apple’s DVD Player on My MacBook

I'm trying to download Apple's DVD player from their official website because I just bought an external DVD player to start collecting physical copies of films. However, when I attempt to download it, I get a message saying, 'DVDPlayerUpdate.pkg cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. macOS cannot verify that this app is free from malware.' I'm confused about why the official Apple software is being flagged as malware. Is there something I'm missing? How can I resolve this issue?

VLC is really versatile and plays almost any media. If you get it running, you'll probably be happy with it. Just make sure to check for the latest updates to help with compatibility.

You might want to check if your macOS still has the DVD Player app pre-installed. It's just hidden away in the system directory. You can find it at /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications. Give that a shot and see if it’s still there!

The main issue here is that the DVD player software you're trying to download is outdated, considering it's 32-bit and hasn't been compatible with newer macOS versions for years. A solid alternative is to use VLC Media Player instead; it's free, open-source, and works great for DVDs. You can download it from their official site. Just a heads-up, using VLC will have a bit of a learning curve if you're new to it, but it's worth it!
