HP Elitedesk G5 Mini Won’t Boot with HDD Dock Connected

I'm having trouble with my HP Elitedesk 800 G5 Mini running Ubuntu Server. It won't boot up when it's connected to an Orico 4 Bay HDD Dock via USB. I've got both a 1TB and a 10TB hard drive in it, and while it starts up fine after a full power reset, it just hangs at the BIOS screen if I try to reboot with the dock connected. I've gone through various settings, like toggling Legacy Boot and Secure Boot, and even updated the BIOS. Unfortunately, my mom's house is 60 miles away, so I can't keep going back for resets. Any help would be greatly appreciated since I don't want to upgrade to a more expensive mini PC for this project!

You might want to try removing the HDMI flex I/O card. It can interfere with the BIOS during reboot, causing the hang you're experiencing. It may work after a full power reset, but not during normal reboots. If you can remove it and see if it makes a difference, that could help.

Thanks for the tip! I've already given up and switched to an SFF model, but I appreciate your suggestion!

This seems to be a known issue with the G5 models. Many users have reported similar problems where systems won't boot with external USB drives connected. Have you tried booting with just one of the drives in the dock? Sometimes the larger drive can confuse the BIOS. An alternative would be to use a simple USB enclosure instead of the dock for troubleshooting. Also, considering using a NAS setup might alleviate the issue, as it connects differently. Just a thought!

Thanks for the insight! I didn't think to test with just one drive, but I need both as the larger one is my backup. I ended up purchasing a different SFF model to avoid the hassle. Fingers crossed it works!
