I'm dealing with an irritating popup on my Samsung phone that claims my device is infected with malware. It keeps opening a tab in Chrome that ominously states "your system is infected with 3 viruses" and that I only have 5 minutes before the damage becomes irreversible. I really believe this is just a scam. Has anyone experienced this before? What steps can I take to stop it?

It sounds like a scare tactic, which is often referred to as scareware. It’s likely that the actual malware is associated with whatever you might have installed from that site. I recommend going through your recently installed or updated apps and uninstalling any that seem sketchy.

If the popup keeps coming back even after checking your apps, a factory reset might be your best bet. Just remember, that will erase all your data, so back up anything important first!

You can follow the steps outlined in this guide on how to disable unwanted popups on your phone. Step 3 is the most crucial, but it’s best to go through the whole thing just to be safe: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/2765944?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid.
