I'm new to Linux and have two questions. First, I've been trying out Zorin and I'm enjoying it, but I'm eager to find a distribution that's a bit more customizable while still being beginner-friendly. Any recommendations? Second, I'm unsure about how to back up my files from Windows, which is my current operating system, and how to access them once I switch to Linux. Most of my important files are stored on my local drive.

For customization, you can really go with any distribution. It's possible to tweak most of them to your liking even if they come with default setups. However, if you want a more hands-on experience right off the bat, consider trying Arch or Debian. They let you pick your desktop environment from the start, rather than having one imposed on you. Just a heads up, Arch can be a bit tricky for beginners. If you're mostly interested in the look and feel, KDE is known for its customization options.
