I recently installed Preload on my laptop because I often run multiple applications and heard it could speed up load times. However, while playing Dungeons & Dragons with a friend at night, my laptop started freezing and lagging, so I uninstalled it. Now it seems to be fine again. I'm not sure if the issues were caused by my internet or the Preload installation. Here's some info about my hardware and software setup: I'm using a Lenovo ThinkPad L421 with 8GB of RAM, an Intel i5 processor, and running Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS. Anyone know if Preload might not work well for all systems?

Honestly, with only 8GB of RAM, using Preload might not be the best idea. It tends to shuffle apps in and out of RAM, which could lead to more lag, especially if you're multitasking during gaming.
Preload is meant to help with load times mostly when you're working with a slower HDD. With only 8GB of RAM, it likely won't perform well. Honestly, upgrading to an SSD might be a better way to improve your load times significantly without relying on Preload.
It seems like some major distributions have stopped including Preload by default in their installations, which could suggest that it's not as effective or necessary anymore.

So, just an SSD upgrade would do the trick?
