I'm looking for a way to enable left-clicking on my trackpad while having a second finger resting on it. Strangely, I found it worked perfectly in a virtual machine running CachyOS, but not in my actual native installation. Is there a setting or workaround for this?

Thanks for sharing the videos — those were super helpful! I discovered that I have a Synaptics trackpad and Windows uses generic HID drivers for it. I've tried various setups like Debian, Arch, Mint, and none seem to work as I'd hoped. But your insights are steering me in the right direction!
In your video, it looks like you're tapping near the bottom of the touchpad while holding your other finger in the middle, right? That method doesn’t work for me. Instead, I have better results if I hold my finger near the bottom and tap anywhere else. So, I think what you're experiencing might not be standard behavior. It could vary based on your hardware! If you try holding a finger down anywhere else and move the other finger, are you able to scroll, or is it just typical mouse movement?
It seems like this feature works fine in some distributions like Fedora. It might depend on the desktop environment you're using. For example, if you're on KDE, that could be the issue. In my experience, it only triggers a secondary click when I use both fingers at once. If you're not a fan of the two-finger tap for right-clicking, there might be a way to disable it, but I'm not sure how that would work on your system. Also, if you're using a Synaptics trackpad, other drivers might behave differently. Maybe try using a different desktop environment or search for solutions specific to your laptop model.
